BACK TO BAKING

This skilled pastry chef experienced an unfortunate injury to the flexor tendons of her fourth and fifth fingers on her dominant hand. The recovery process for flexor tendon injuries is intricate and necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the condition and the associated precautions. Educating the patient is crucial to ensure adherence to the treatment plan and to facilitate optimal recovery.

Following surgery, the patient was fitted with a custom dorsal blocking orthosis, and under the guidance of her hand therapist, she began early active range of motion exercises during therapy to minimize scarring and enhance tendon mobility. The patient attended therapy sessions two to three times per week and showed positive progress in her treatment. Our team collaborated closely with her throughout the rehabilitation process. After several months of treatment, which included various orthotic devices, modalities such as ultrasound, manual therapy techniques, exercises, silicone scar patches for scar management, desensitization methods, and coban for edema control, she achieved an excellent outcome.

We are pleased to share that she returned to baking for the entirety of New York City, as she is employed at a well-known establishment in the area. We were honored to receive a photo of her on Thanksgiving Day expressing her gratitude towards her therapy team and hand surgeon. In the image, she is seen preparing a Thanksgiving pie for her friends and family. We take great pride in having contributed to her recovery journey.
